Scripture: “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” – Matthew 7:1
Devotional:
Jesus’ teaching on judgment is not a call to ignore sin but a warning against self-righteousness and harsh criticism. We often judge others without fully understanding their circumstances, yet we desire mercy when others judge us. Jesus reminds us that the standard we use to judge others will be applied to us.
To avoid hypocrisy, we must first examine our own hearts, seeking God’s forgiveness and guidance. When we approach others with humility and grace, we reflect God’s love rather than driving them away with condemnation.
Illustration:
A man walks through a muddy field and criticizes another for dirty shoes, unaware that his own are caked in mud. Similarly, when we judge others without addressing our own sins, we fail to see clearly. Jesus calls us to focus on our own spiritual growth before offering guidance to others.
Challenge:
This week, pause before making judgments about others. Pray for God to reveal areas in your own life that need growth, and ask Him to help you approach others with grace and understanding.
